About Dan Allsup

Let’s get this right upfront. I wasn’t a hero. I was a Vietnam War draft dodger. Well, sort of. Allow me to explain. By 1967, the draft was breathing down my back. My oldest brother had already been drafted, and he advised me to avoid the Army at all costs. Another brother was having a great time flying Navy fighter jets, but he cautioned me not to go into the Navy as an enlisted man. That left the Marines and the Air Force. So I decided to join up on my own initiative. Care to guess which recruiting line I chose? I joined the Air Force in April 1967 for a four-year commitment that stretched into 22 years. It turned out to be one of my best decisions Then I joined Allsup just three days after I hung up my uniform for the last time. The decision was a no-brainer. First, I was offered a job that took advantage of the skills I acquired in the military. Secondly, the company’s mission appealed to me—to help people who needed help the most; those applying for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits. Jim Allsup, our CEO and a Vietnam-era Air Force veteran himself, always had his eye open for a service that he could tailor for military veterans. That opportunity arrived last summer when we launched the Allsup Veterans Disability Appeal Service (AVDAS). “They fought for us, and now it’s time for us to fight for them,” he told his employees. “AVDAS will go a long way toward helping our wounded warriors put their lives back together and enjoy the benefits of America they deserve.” Welcome to our blog. Whether a veteran or not, just let us know if you have a question about SSDI or VA disability benefits. Consider that an order.

Returning to Work After a Stroke

By The Old Sarge My childhood friend, Bert, was simply the most brilliant person I have ever met. A science nerd, Bert self-studied German while in grade school because he knew that many university chemistry text books were written in that language. His diligence paid off. After graduating [...]

Never a Day Off―Living with Multiple Sclerosis
